Independence: APC Chieftain tasks leaders on political-will to reduce hardship nationwide

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hycienth Ngwu, has tasked elective leaders on political-will to implement good policies meant to reduce hardship nationwide.

Ngwu, a former APC Publicity Secretary in the South-East, gave the task on Tuesday in Enugu while speaking on the 64th Independence Anniversary of the country.

According to him, Nigeria is a blessed country with lots of human and material resources to be in the league of developed nations.

“All that is needed is a strong political-will to implement good policies that will turnaround our economy for growth, increase wealth distribution and reduce the hardship that is currently plaguing the majority of the citizens.

“The removal of fuel subsidy is a good policy, but the government should endeavour to make our public refineries work to encourage healthy competition in the sector as a way to reduce the price of the petroleum products.

“This will consequently bring down inflationary pressure on domestic goods and services,” he said.

Ngwu, who is a foundation member of the APC, said that as a nation, at 64, and particularly given the global economic downturn “Nigeria cannot be said to be a failed nation.”

“There is much hope for a greater Nigeria if only our political leaders can walk their talk in the fight against corruption and ostentatious way of living,” he said.

The APC chieftain also called on the government at all levels to check multiple taxation and levies as well as moderate businesses tax payment.

“Taxes are good, but excessive taxation kills not only economic activities but also the stakeholders in the economy,” he said.
