Nwokike Becomes First Awka Indigene To Be Appointed As UNIZIK Registrar

 In a landmark development that underscores the importance of merit and experience in academic administration, Barrister Nwokike Rosemary Ifeoma has emerged as the new Registrar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, following a rigorous selection process. She also becomes the first Awka indigene to hold  such a position since the inception of the academic institution.


The appointment, which came after an intensive nationwide search and comprehensive evaluation of candidates, marks a significant milestone in the institution's commitment to excellence in educational administration. The selection process, overseen by the University's Governing Council, involved multiple stages of screening, interviews, and thorough assessment of candidates' credentials and track records.


Barrister Nwokike's emergence as the successful candidate was attributed to her impressive academic credentials and rich administrative experience. Her educational background, which  includes a PHD in view, an LLM  in Maritime Law and Policy, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as well as a second degree, from the Faculty of Law, UNN,  positioned her as a standout candidate among the pool of applicants.


Her appointment reflects not just academic excellence but also a wealth of practical experience in university administration. Throughout her career, Barrister Nwokike has demonstrated exceptional competence across various administrative roles. Her journey began as an Assistant Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Law at UNN, where she honed her skills in academic administration and demonstrated remarkable aptitude for institutional management.


Her professional trajectory includes significant contributions in various capacities, including service in the Records and Statistics unit, where she implemented innovative systems for data management and record-keeping. As Faculty Officer in the Department of Business Administration, she showcased her ability to manage complex administrative processes while maintaining efficient operations.


Perhaps one of her most notable achievements was her role as Coordinator of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Research at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) in 2019. In this position, she demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and innovative thinking, fostering partnerships between academia and industry while promoting entrepreneurship education.


Her tenure as Unit Head in the Personnel Services Unit at the Registry Department in 2022, Enugu Campus, further solidified her reputation as an accomplished administrator. In this role, she successfully managed human resources functions and implemented policies that enhanced staff welfare and institutional efficiency.


Barrister Nwokike's professional standing is further enhanced by her membership in several prestigious professional bodies, most notably the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA). Her active participation in these organizations reflects her commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of best practices in university administration.


As the new Registrar of UNIZIK, Barrister Nwokike brings not only her wealth of experience but also a vision for modernizing administrative processes and enhancing the university's efficiency. Her appointment has been widely welcomed by the university community, with stakeholders expressing confidence in her ability to contribute significantly to the institution's growth and development.
