MDCAN COOUTH hails Tinubu for intervening in UNIZIK VCship crisis

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has hailed President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the crisis in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

President Tinubu had on Wednesday ordered the Minister of Education to dissolve the governing council of the institution and also remove its recently installed Vice Chancellor, Prof Benard Odoh and the registrar.

This is coming three days into a warning strike declared by the national body of the association to protest the exclusion of their members from contesting the position of Vice Chancellor.

The chairman of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital branch of the association, Dr Amaechi Nwachukwu PhD who spoke to journalists praised Tinubu for harkening to the cry of the association.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the dissolution of the governing council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Tinubu also approved the removal of Bernard Odoh, the new vice chancellor, and Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, the registrar.

Nigeria’s Evolving Federalism and the Search for Sustainable Local Government Administration

The Anambra State House of Assembly passed two progressive legislations pursuant to its powers under the Constitution (Anambra State Economic Planning and Development Law, 2024; and Anambra State Local Government Administration Law, 2024), and I have signed them into law. This has generated commentaries and debates especially in relation to their consistency or inconsistency with the recent Supreme Court judgement and the mantra of “local government autonomy.” My media team, other members of my government as well as well meaning Nigerians have vigorously defended these progressive laws and that should suffice. The election was abruptly halted by Mr. Ezeanaekwe Chidi Mark, an Electoral Officer with the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).
