ENSIEC recruits 12,800 ad-hoc staff, warns against activities scammers

No fewer than 12,800 ad-hoc electoral staff will be recruited by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for the forthcoming Enugu State local government elections.

It would be recalled that ENSIEC had fixed Sept. 21, 2024, for council polls into the 17 chairmanship and 260 ward councilorship positions in Enugu State.

GOC 82 Division distributes educational materials to schools in Cross River

 


The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, has distributed educational materials to selected schools at Biase Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State.

During the distribution in the schools, Dada, who is also the Force Commander Joint Task Force South-East, tagged: “Operation UDO KA”, said that the gesture was a bid to strengthen the Civil –Military-Corporation.

Foundation proffers 9 solutions to preventing suicidal thoughts

The Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, an NGO, has proffered nine time-test solutions to preventing suicidal thoughts among people.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Rev. Chukwudiebube Nwachukwu, told newsmen in Enugu on Friday that chief among the solutions is investing in people's general well-being in every sector of life.

8th National Youth Festival: Team Anambra To Compete In 20 Sporting Events, Vows To Better Last Year's Record

The Anambra contingent to the 8th National Youth Games who departed Awka for Asaba on Monday,  9th September 2024 will compete in 20 sporting events.


The team which left the Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre Camp comprised 124 athletes, and 49 officials 


 The Anambra contingent to the National Youth Games has departed Awka for Asaba with a contingent of 173 persons.



The festival would hold between Sept. 9 and Sept. 19 while the opening ceremony would hold on Sept. 11.


Anambra would take part in in 20 sporting events including Athletics, Para-athletics, Gymnastics 

Scrabble, Chess 

Table Tennis, Swimming 

Judo, Ncho/Ayo, Teackeando, Karate.


Others are  Weightlifting, Karate, Kungfu, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Wrestling, Boxing and  Badminton 


Addressing the team before departure, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo encouraged the athletes  to do be worthy ambassadors of the state and do their best to make Anambra proud at the festival,


Soludo, who was represented by Nonso Anozie, his principal secretary, said a handsome reward awaits them while urging them to surpass their performance at the previous edition of the festival.


Patrick-Estate Onyedum,  Chairman Anambra Sports Development Commission thanked Gov. Soludo for his support and ensuring that talented youths had the opportunity to compete with their contemporaries.


Onyedum said the team was made up of athletes well under the age of 15 in line with the policy of development strategy of the state.


He expressed hope that Team Anambra would do well at the games.


Recall that Anambra won seven gold,  six silver and two bronze medals at the 2023 edition of the National Youth Games.

Abia State stands a good chance of becoming Nigeria’s electricity hub, according to Nigeria’s former Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji.

Nnaji, now the chairman of the Geometric Power group which generates and distributes electricity in the Aba Ring-fenced Area that covers nine of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State, was speaking today when a team of international electricity consultants visited the group in its head office at the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba.

Hunters Rescue More Kidnap Victims In Anambra

Barely three weeks to the rescue of two siblings from kidnappers and recovery of stolen vehicles around Nkwelle-Ezunaka axis of Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) has rescued another kidnap victim along Nri-Enugwu-Ukwu road between Anaocha and Njikoka Local Government Areas of the state.

The ex-Biafran leader and Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was once asked his opinion on the presumed brilliant performance of late General Murtala Mohammed as Nigeria’s Head of State. He chuckled a reply – “Time saved Murtala”. The reporter, surprised at his response, asked for clarification.
