Chief Gordian Chukwuemeka Oranika: Death of the Pioneer DG of F.C.T, Abuja

Foremost Nigerian Permanent Secretary and the first Director-General, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Chief Gordian Chukwuemeka Oranika (Ochendo Abatete), died recently at the age of 89 and will be buried on December 6, 2024.

He was the Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, between 1991 and 1994 and served under two Ministers, General Gado Muhammadu Nasko and General Jeremiah Timbut Useni. He was the Director-General when Nigeria’s capital was moved from Lagos to Abuja in December 1991. He served as the Director-General for over three years. He significantly shaped the city’s development curve during that time, marking its beautiful horizon with enduring legacies.   

There's No Tension In Ojoto Community --- Igwe Mbamalu

His Royal Highness Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu Ezeoranyelu Eze Ojoto (III), the traditional ruler of Ojoto community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has declared that there is no crisis or civil unrest whatsoever in his community. 

Mbamalu who spoke to HEADLINE NEWS exclusively concerning  orchestrated attempts by a certain Chief Dennis Okafor who attempted to crown himself Igwe Ojoto in an uncompleted building as against government directives, said as the Chief Security Officer of Ojoto community, he could categorically say that Ojoto is calm and peaceful and everyone in the community is going about their lawful businesses contrary to fake online news reports of imaginary crisis in the community. 

UNN VC organises a Convocation meeting to elect member of governing council

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, on Saturday, called for a meeting for the Convocation of the University for electing one convocation representative to the Governing Council.

Chigbu told newsmen in Enugu that the meeting of the Convocation, which is for the sole aim of electing one convocation representative, was being called after consultation with the stakeholders of the university.

MDCAN COOUTH hails Tinubu for intervening in UNIZIK VCship crisis

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has hailed President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the crisis in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.


President Tinubu had on Wednesday ordered the Minister of Education to dissolve the governing council of the institution and also remove its recently installed Vice Chancellor, Prof Benard Odoh and the registrar.

This is coming three days into a warning strike declared by the national body of the association to protest the exclusion of their members from contesting the position of Vice Chancellor.

The chairman of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital branch of the association, Dr Amaechi Nwachukwu PhD who spoke to journalists praised Tinubu for harkening to the cry of the association.

President Tinubu dissolves UNIZIK Governing Council, Sacks New VC, Registrar


President Bola Tinubu has approved the dissolution of the governing council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Tinubu also approved the removal of Bernard Odoh, the new vice chancellor, and Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, the registrar.

Chief Emma Eneukwu, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the party’s victory in Ondo is not a surprise but was earned through hard work prior to the election.

Governor Mbah Hails Enugu-born Chidimma on Emerging 1st Runner-up at Miss Universe Mexico 2024

 


Governor Peter Mbah has congratulated Enugu State-born Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Onwe Adetshina, on her emergence as the first runner up at the Miss Universe 2024 Pageant in Mexico, saying she had demonstrated the perseverance and courage for which the people of the state were known.

Mbah, who had earlier received Miss Onwe Adetshina in October and appointed her the state’s brand ambassador also thanked Nigerians and the world for rallying behind her in her chequered journey to the pageant.

Enugu Candidates to Represent Nigeria at World Schools Debate Championship in Panama

 


The President’s School Debate, Nigeria, PSDN, has recommended the Enugu State Debate Team to represent the country at the World Schools Debate Championship, WSDC, holding in Panama in July 2025.

Conveying the nomination to the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, the Chairman of the National Advisory Board, of Presidential Schools Debate, Nigeria, PSDN, Usman Muhammad, said the development was sequel to Team Enugu’s impressive outing at the last debate for secondary schools where they emerged the overall best.
