GENUINE FEAR OR ......?

It was close to mid-night on January 20th, 2025, when a car, snaking dangerously and beaming its headlights behind, overtook me at Nawfia and slowed down abruptly. 

Panicky, I tugged at the pigeonhole of my car to pull out a stun gun almost at the same time my friend was fiddling with his bag for a tear gas canister. In the confused state we did not reckon that both items have no sufficient impact on target and would quicken our journey to death if identified.

Aba Experiences First Power Cut in One Month, as Vandals Attack Gas Pipelines


After 31 days of constant power supply, residents in the Aba Ringfence comprising nine of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State experienced their first power outage this weekend.

The Aba Power Managing Director, Ugo Opiegbe, confirmed the outage today. “We are sorry we lost supplies from Heirs Energies, working in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)”, Opiegbe told journalists in  a telephone interview this morning.

Energy Consultant Advises NERC To Approve Electricity Tariffs at the Same Time*



An Abuja-based energy consultant, Engineer Dikedinigbo Ejike, has advised the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to review and approve the tariffs of all 12 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) simultaneously to continue to enjoy the confidence of all Nigerians as a transparent and impartial regulator.

Engineer Ejike appealed today in Abuja while speaking to newsmen on the new tariff structure NERC approved for Aba Power, Nigeria’s 12 DisCo, on December 30, 2024, but to take effect from January 2, 2025.

As Aba Power, Nigeria’s 12 electricity distribution company (DisCo), today marks its 31 days of providing power without interruption to nine of the 17 local government areas in Abia State in the Aba Ringfence, its Managing Director has congratulated the staff on the achievement but with a warning not rest on their laurels.

“You have reason to click glasses for this attainment made possible by an improved gas supply from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL), and its partner, Heirs Energies”, said Ugo Opiegbe, a lawyer, in an email to the management and staff  this morning, “ we must bear in mind that there is a lot of work to be done”.
