As the zero hour approaches swiftly for the Brazil World Cup( 58 days to go), Super Eagles have been given a semi final target.
The Nigerian Supporters Club(Worldwide) in a World Press conference yesterday at their Ayinde Giwa secretariat set the target noting that the target was solely for musical group who have been the back-bone of all national teams at all international competitions.
‘’Let me emphasise that this target is not from the Nigeria Football Federation or for the players. This is what we promised ourselves that the Super Eagles will get to the semi-final of the World Cup. And we are going to follow-up with prayers and fasting to achieve it’’, President General of the Supporters Club(Worldwide) Dr Rafiu Ladipo said.
He regretted that it was appalling that the Eagles who made their debut in USA ’94 and qualified for France ’98 and reached the second round respectively have not crossed that hurdle in 2002 and 2010.
FOR the umpteenth time yesterday, Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi said that he was not afraid of his Super Eagles confronting a-Lion-loaded team of Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil.
Keshi spoke yesterday in Ikeja as Peak, the official milk of the Super Eagles launched a campaign to galvanize support for the team ahead of the World Cup.
Nigeria and Argentina arguably remain the two teams to pick the tickets in a group that has debutantes Bosnia-Herzogovina and Iran.
The Taraba Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the death of seven persons in the violence that broke out over night in Wukari.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Kwaji disclosed this in an interview in Jalingo.
He attributed the the violence to reprisal attacks by youths in the town following alleged incessant raids by suspected herdsmen from surrounding villages.
“I can confirm to you that seven persons died in the violence, while many others had various degrees of injuries, which also left many houses burnt,” he said.
Kwaji dispelled the rumour that the crisis was religious.
“Let me use this opportunity to tell the public that the crisis was neither religious nor political,” adding that teams of security personnel had since contained the situation.
Timi Dakolo came into limelight after he won the maiden edition of Idols West Africa several years back. Since then, his life and career have taken a turn for the better. My grandma’s death and the Nigerian Idol West Africa During the competition my grandmother who I lived with for many years before I got into the competition passed on, I was down and I wanted to quit the competition but I stayed back because of the encouragement I received from friends and fellow contestants.
And I noticed that each time I went out with other contestants people would tell me not to disappoint them, and that they were voting for me. From top ten to top three and as God would have it, I won.
Nigerians reacted with outrage over President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to Kano to welcome former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, to the Peoples Democratic Party, a day after over 200 Nigerians were killed and several others were injured in a bomb blast in a suburb of Abuja.
Insensitive, irresponsible, terrible, and wicked are some of the words that have been used to describe the president’s political visit to Kano.
“Let’s face it, is it even proper, as a father, for the president to be dancing at a rally and clinking glasses at a chief’s party just the day after?” said Betty Abah, journalist and activist. “What really would happen if he sends representatives while he pretends he’s meeting security chiefs? Even if he doesn’t care, is this even good for his image? What message is he sending out? He did same during the Centenary celebrations. How do you explain this crass insensitivity?”
They say no two separate journeys of life are ever the same. The path some have found so smooth is the same path others may see as bumpy, uphill and rough. For Nollywood beauty, Lillian Esoro, popular for her role as ‘Nurse Abigail’ in the TV soap ‘Clinic Matters’, her romance with the word ‘love’ has been as sweet as it has been unsavoury.
“ Let’s just say I have fallen in love before. Eh, everyone has fallen in love before. Love is a beautiful thing. When I was in love it was like Heaven and I wished the feeling never went away. It was good while it lasted. It’s an experience everyone should have” she had told me.
Facing the prospect of a stiff challenge to his reelection in 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped up plans to neutralize his political foes and make new friends and allies. A key part of the president’s plan involves a secret deal to scuttle the ongoing prosecution of several former public officials on corruption charges in exchange for their political support.
An investigation by SaharaReporters discovered that Mr. Jonathan, who faces a major challenge from the opposition, especially the All Progressives Congress, and from within his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has started preliminary negotiations with several suspects in corruption cases on the possible obstruction of their prosecution in court.
