There was anxiety in Ogun and Lagos states on Wednesday after news filtered in that suspected Boko Haram members had taken over the Sagamu area of Ogun State and were heading for Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the news was spread through social media and text messages.
A copy of the message received by our correspondent read, “Breaking news, if you are on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway going towards Ibadan, please turn back. Eighteen suspected Boko Haram members with AK47 rifles are on the highway now displaying their skills.
“Nine policemen and 11 civilians have been confirmed dead by the gunmen while trying to stop them from shooting. Please rebroadcast to save a life. May God help us in Nigeria.”

Confusion and pandemonium broke out at Agaka and Adabata communities of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday as two groups engaged in a free-for-all.
The fracas paralysed the economic activities in the area for many hours and forced many traders to close their shops and flee.
According to an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, the two groups fought over alleged snatching of a girlfriend from a member of one of the the group.

He who is without sin should cast the first stone.  Nigerian rapper Neyu Godwon Nyan had a few days ago mocked fellow rapper and friend-turned-foe Sinzu after the latter got embroiled in a $300 debit card fraud controversy sparked to life by Godwon himself who had been among those to first share the controversial surveilance video.
However, a new viral post now indicates that rapper Godwon may have been allegedly arrested for burglary while in the US in 2009 according to a rap sheet taken from the Fort Bent County jail website and circulated online.

Coach Seeks Workshop, Serminars For Coaches, Referees

The Head Coach of the Nigeria Judo Federation, Obed Ogunedo, on Monday urged the federation’s board to be organising workshop and seminars for coaches and referees regularly.
Ogunedo in Lagos said that the rules of the sport had kept changing, hence the need for young and old coaches to be kept abreast with new rules.
According to him, the growth and popularity of the sport in the country, is tied to the improved technical competence of handlers.

227 Edo Civil Servants Appeal for Reinstatement in Payroll

NO fewer than 227 civil servants whose names were allegedly omitted from the payroll of the Edo State Civil Service for the month of March, 2014 have appealed to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of the state to intervene in their plight, just as they called for their reinstatement and payment of all their outstanding allowances.

The affected workers, in an open letter to the governor through their counsel, Mr. Olayiwola Afolabi, said that they had not attained the age of 60 nor served the mandatory 35 years in service in consonance with the Federal Government policy of computing the service years of public officers who have proceeded on study leave without pay, with effect from July 6, 2004.

Aggrieved Woman Kills Own Son

mumA woman, Mrs. Ita Okokon, aka, Eka Isaac, at Atai Obio Offot, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has killed her 15-year-old son, Isaac Okokon, after a minor disagreement.
Isaac, an SSS II pupil of Offot Ukwa Secondary School, Obiofot, Uyo, was said to have died on Friday following a machete injury his mother inflicted on him.
A neighbour, Miss Ekaette Effiong, told PUNCH Metro that when the mother beat Isaac, he retaliated instead of running away as a sign of respect.
