UPDATE: Aregbesola’s visit to Oyinlola worries Osun PDP

The visit of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has begun to cause anxiety within the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the leadership of the party was worried by the visit of Aregbesola and other leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress to Oyinlola, who is an estranged National Secretary of the PDP.

Following the visit, the Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, in a statement issued on Wednesday, warned members of the party against fraternising with members of the opposition and suspended members of the PDP.

Olaoluwa urged leaders and members of the PDP to seek necessary clarifications from the secretariat. Olaoluwa stated that there was no reason to divide the party since a governorship candidate had emerged.

He said that every member of the party should unite and work for the victory of the party in August 9 governorship election and beyond.

A sixty-three year old man, named Ubale Saudi Dutsa has been sentenced to death following his misdemeanor of having a carnal knowledge of a twelve year old girl named Shamsiyya by Justice Farouk Ahmad held that he relied on Sharia law guided by Quran to sentence the convict accordingly.
Shamsiyya is confirmed to has been infected with HIV/AIDS as a result of the convict’s carnal knowledge of her. This was confirmed medically after been examined at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital.
Though Dutsa has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to death by stoning, following his involvement in the defilement of the 12-year-old girl.

to be part of requirements for the issuance of the new national driver’s licence.

The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Chidi Nkwonta, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the development was part of the corps’ effort at ensuring that licences were issued only to qualified applicants.

President may not seek Nyako, Shettima, Geidam’s suspension

President Goodluck Jonathan is not contemplating the suspension of the governors in the three Northern states currently under emergency rule, investigation by The PUNCH  has revealed.

Jonathan had on May 14, 2013 declared a six-month state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states following the increasing activities of members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

He also sought and got the National Assembly’s approval to extend the emergency rule in November 2013 for an additional six-month period. The extension expires next month.

There had  been media reports  that a decision to suspend the three governors – Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe), and Kashim Shettima (Borno) –  to further allow the emergency rule to work would be taken at a security meeting Jonathan will hold at noon on Thursday (today) with the 36 state governors.

A transit Cop, Kevin Canty, 43 in New York has been arrested for committing murder by shooting his wife Jessica Mera ten times to death with a 9-mm pistol.

Panic in Ogun, Lagos Over Rumoured B’Haram Invasion

There was anxiety in Ogun and Lagos states on Wednesday after news filtered in that suspected Boko Haram members had taken over the Sagamu area of Ogun State and were heading for Lagos.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the news was spread through social media and text messages.

A copy of the message received by our correspondent read, “Breaking news, if you are on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway going towards Ibadan, please turn back. Eighteen suspected Boko Haram members with AK47 rifles are on the highway now displaying their skills.

“Nine policemen and 11 civilians have been confirmed dead by the gunmen while trying to stop them from shooting. Please rebroadcast to save a life. May God help us in Nigeria.”
