No fewer than nine suspected Fulani herdsmen, yesterday, allegedly gang-raped a 15-year-old girl and two housewives (names withheld) at gunpoint, in Tse Ikyuer, Yandev, Mbagwen in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Two of the victims, who narrated their ordeal to Vanguard in Makurdi, the state capital, said after beating and raping them, the herdsmen also made away with their N60,000 and two phones.
According to the women, who could barely walk, “one of us (the teenage girl) was raped repeatedly, after being thoroughly beaten by the herdsmen. At the moment, she is neither able to walk nor talk.”
Renown Kaduna-based cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, last night posted on his Facebook page four shocking photographs purporting to show how Nigerian soldiers executed unarmed civilians and buried them in a mass grave in Borno state. He described the act as a genocide that must be investigated. The civilians were most probably rounded up as suspects in the ongoing security crackdown on Boko Haram insurgents.
Residents of Ajegunle area of Lagos were, yesterday, thrown into shock, after a bird was said to have transformed into an old woman who confessed to being a witch. The dark-complexioned nonagenarian with tribal marks, who spoke in Yoruba, told a bewildered crowd that she was on her way back to Ibadan, Oyo State (as a bird) when she missed her track. She was also said to have told the mammoth crowd that her mystical powers disappointed her because it was dawn.
Boko
Haram militants have attacked the village of Allagarno in Askari local
government of Borno state killing 18 persons. Villagers
reported being woken up to heavy artillery bombardment by militants late
Tuesday. The militants razed most of the village leaving behind death and
destruction.
Pandemonium and panic broke out on
Sunday, and that panic gripped the ancient city of Boji-Boji-Agbor, in the Ika
South local government area of Delta state. It began when an aide, one Hilary
Ibegbulem, and three armed thugs working for Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, confronted
an Agbor based Hotelier, Mr. Sunny Okonye, and shot at him several times with a
pump action shot gun at close range.
Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad
will contribute one battalion each to the international force set up to combat
Boko Haram and other insurgent groups.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati,
made this known when he briefed newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Abati spoke on more measures taken to strengthen the fight against terrorism in
the sub-region.
Just over a year ago, armed men on motorcycles entered a national park in
Cameroon, near the Nigerian border, and swiftly abducted a family of
vacationing French tourists a husband and wife and their four children, along
with their uncle. Two months later, the kidnappers released the hostages along
with 16 others in exchange for a cool $3.15 million. The transaction was made
