WITH the death of the Emir of Kano,
Alhaji Ado Bayero, on Friday, the first question Nigerians asked was obviously
who takes over from him. The question becomes very necessary given the
background of the recent crisis between the Federal Government and the last
governor of the Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. The former CBN
governor has never hidden his ambition to be emir of Kano after Ado Bayero. Now
that Bayero has bowed out, it goes without saying that prominent likely
successors to that throne of influence and prestige would rev up their engine.

Islamic leaders and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero, 83, is dead.
The octogenarian died peacefully in
his palace after a long battle with cancer in the morning hours and was buried
at 4 pm, a palace spokesman, Mahe Bashir Wali announced on Radio Kano.

Godwin Emefiele Officially Assume Office Today As New CBN
Godwin Emefiele assumes office today as the
Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor after the expiration of the tenure of
Lamido Sanusi on May 31. Mr. Emefiele was still on duty at Zenith as at last
Friday.
A visit
to Zenith last Friday showed that some of his personal staff were being
mobilised on Friday to leave for Abuja in preparation for his assumption of
