Governor Obiano Takes Nepotism to High Heavens---Guest Writer

It is painful writing this piece but more hurting not to put pen on paper for the time is ripe.
For the first time in the history of Nigeria’s democracy, Anambra State had a peaceful and most widely attended handover ceremony on March 17, 2014. Many saw it as just a gathering of cheerful party faithful, politically advantaged persons and proponents of Igbo Agenda but keen observers sensed that there was more to it. It was the birth of a new Anambra.

Nano-silver, The Nigerian Ebola Drug Is A Pesticide - USA

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it has become aware of products being sold online that fraudulently claim to prevent or treat Ebola. The FDA's warning comes on the heels of comments by Nigeria's top health official, Onyebuchi Chukwu, who reportedly said earlier Thursday that eight Ebola patients in Lagos, the country's capital, will receive an experimental treatment called nano-silver...

DSS IS PARTISAN –APC

DSS IS PARTISAN –APC
The All Progressives Congress has accused the Department of State Service of partisanship.
The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Thursday that the members of staff of the organisation, especially its spokesperson, Ms Marilyn Ogar, needed proper education and exposure.
Corroborating its allegation of DSS’ partisanship, the party condemned the selective complaint against its National Publicity Secretary in Osun State during the August 9 election.
It said the outfit deliberately kept quiet on the presence of the Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro , and others in the state during the poll.
The statement reads in part, “How can a spokesperson for such a sensitive government agency not understand that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides for freedom of movement?
“On what basis is Ms. Ogar questioning what the APC’s National Publicity Secretary was doing in Osun State when the same fellow has not questioned the presence of Obanikoro, Chris Uba and the likes in the same state. Or are those people from Osun State?
“Was it not publicly announced that the APC was moving its headquarters to Osun State to give support to Governor Rauf Aregbesola? Why didn’t Ms. Ogar question the presence of President Goodluck Jonathan or Vice-President Namadi Sambo in Osun State when they came too if she was being fair?
“It is sad that Ms. Ogar has turned herself to the spokesperson of the PDP by echoing what that party had said on the Osun State election. This is unprofessional and irresponsible.”
The party said that the claim by Ogar on a national television that APC leaders were arrested in Osogbo for loitering on the eve of the election depicted the height of ignorance and amounted to an embarrassment to the DSS.
It added, “The spokesperson for the agency, Ms. Ogar, should be properly trained and given the necessary exposure so she can speak with knowledge and facts, instead of making baseless and incautious statements.
“It is sad that a spokesperson for the DSS does not know there is no offence called ‘loitering’ under Nigerian laws. For her to now go on national television to say the APC National Publicity Secretary was arrested for ‘loitering’ in Osogbo on the eve of the governorship election is the height of ignorance and constitutes a great embarrassment to the DSS.
“It is even worse that the so-called spokesperson, ever so glib, would make a joke out of such a faux pas by an agency that is supposed to be non-partisan and highly professionalised.
“How on earth can any human being not be disoriented when 15 hooded gunmen arrest him/her and point their weapons at his/her head as they did to me on that night in Osogbo?”

Nurse Who Skipped EBOLA Quarantine To Enugu Is Back To LAGOS In A Special Ambulance

NURSE WHO SKIPPED EBOLA QUARANTINE TO ENUGU IS BACK TO LAGOS IN A SPECIAL AMBULANCE
Nigerian Minister for Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has confirmed that the Lagos nurse who travelled to Enugu against medical advice is now back in Lagos and is under quarantine with her husband.
Chukwu also confirmed that a Nigerian in the Diaspora was sending an experimental drug for Ebola treatment, and the drug, whose name is ‘Nanosilver’, would arrive in Nigeria today.
The nurse, who had contact with Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, caused a stir on Wednesday when it was discovered that she had travelled to Enugu and had contact with at least 21 people during her unauthorized trip to the Southeastern city.
However, Chukwu says the nurse has so far not developed the symptoms as of the time of her trip.
“In Enugu yesterday, there were 21 secondary contacts with the nurse. But after investigations, there are only 6 secondary contacts now”, he said in Abuja on Thursday.
“The nurse who is newly wedded had no symptoms of the disease when she travelled to Enugu, was transported back to Lagos in a special ambulance with her husband. Her husband is under quarantine now”.
Chukwu also confirmed that a Nigerian in the Diaspora was sending an experimental drug for Ebola treatment, and the drug, whose name is ‘Nanosilver’, would arrive in Nigeria today.
“The experimental drug is a donation from a Nigerian scientist in Diaspora who was concerned about threat of Ebola in his home country. The drug will reach Nigeria today”, he said.
On updates on Ebola cases in Nigeria, he said some of the 169 secondary contacts of Sawyer were no longer under surveillance and had been released, having completed the 21 days of incubation period.
