Ebola Mars NGO’s Free Summer program for secondary school students

  

The 5th edition of the Youth Rescue and Care Initiative (YORCI) 5-week free summer academic, vocational and life skills training program would have been concluded in grand style but for the outbreak of the Ebola Virus disease. 

According to the Executive director of the Non Governmental organisation, Mrs Bisilola Asenuga, "plans were already in top gear for an all encompassing prize giving and talent fair day when the federal government  issued a directive that all summer classes be suspended" She added that it was difficult suspending the program at the three centres (Lekki,Ooshodi&Festac) as the   1,020 students were already engrossed in different life enriching activities that the NGO  had taken the children through.

Clergy Charges Parents On Child Trainning

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor has charged parents to train their children in the way of the Lord for them to be properly equipped to face challenges in life.
Bishop Ezeokafor gave the charge while dedicating Paschal Abuchi Onwumelu, the child of his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Abuchi Onwumelu, at the Retreat and Pastoral Centre Okpuno, Awka South Council Area.
According to the Bishop, children trained with the fear of the Lord and hard work will have the courage to face challenging situations in life, instead of running away from them
He reminded them of the need to monitor their children closely to be able to detect when they deviate from the teachings they gave them.

Catholic Diocese of Awka Mourns Late Bishop Emeritus

The Catholic Diocese of Awka has declared 30 days of prayers for the late Emeritus Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Simon Akwali Okafor who died on August 29, 2014 at the age of 80 years.
Declaring the 30 days of mourning and prayers, the incumbent bishop of the Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor told newsmen in a press briefing at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka that all the Parishes in the Diocese have been informed of the demise of the late Bishop and the 30 day mourning period.

Unless something is done urgently by the MTN Nigeria to stop the immediate porting of Anambra people to other networks, the network will loose customers.

DSS Parades 3 Kidnap Suspects

The State Security Service (DSS), was on Tuesday 2/9/2014 paraded three kidnap suspects for allegedly kidnapping one Mr. Charles Onyido and recovered a pump Action gun, along with twenty five (25) live rounds of cartridges at a hideout in Ogbunike, Oyi Council Area of Anambra State.
Addressing newsmen, the State Director of Security Anambra State, Mr. A.U. Okeiyi, fsi, said the victim was kidnapped on 28th August, 2014, at Uruezealor Village, Ogidi, Idemili North L.G.A, near his residence and that the abductors demanded the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (100m) from the victim’s family for his release, which he said they reduced to two million, five hundred thousand (2.5m) as at 1st September, 2014.
