Senators divided over emergency rule extension
The Senate on Tuesday abruptly adjourned plenary till Wednesday (today) following a sharp disagreement by its members over President Goodluck Jonathan’s fresh request to extend emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
Plenary had commenced smoothly with Senate President David Mark reading a letter from Jonathan amid murmuring by some of his colleagues, especially those from the affected states.
Sensing that the letter titled, “Extension of the period for the proclamation of a state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states” might generate tension, the Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, moved a motion for the Senate to dissolve into a closed – door session to consider the request.
Family finds missing dad abandoned by roadside, dead
Five days after a 50-year-old man, Mr. Joseph Oranusi, was reported missing by his family, he has been found dead and abandoned in front of a shop on Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Oranusi, who hailed from Idemili, Anambra State, was working as a security guard at a complex within the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
Our correspondent also learnt that the deceased, who lived with his family at Olusanya Street, Isokoko, Agege, was initially reported missing at the Isokoko Police Division on Thursday, October 24 ─ the day he failed to return home from his workplace.

Tambuwal suspends presidential bid, to pick gov form
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, on Tuesday bowed to pressure and opted out of the race for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.
The Speaker made his decision public in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
Tambuwal said the decision to suspend his bid was taken after due consultations and considerations of the overall interest of the party.

Housewife stabs hubby to death over money
What started as a mild argument over money turned tragic between a couple in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State after the wife stabbed her husband to death.
The incident happened on Wednesday, last week, on TK Balogun Street, Igbo Olomu, Ishawo.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the woman, Folashade Sodiya, 27, killed her husband, Jude Igbinedor, 39, around 2am after heated argument over money.
They were said to have been in a seven-year relationship, though the union had not been consented to by the parents.
