How I survived cancer- Wole Soyinka

The Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, on Tuesday disclosed that he is a cancer survivor.
He disclosed that he battled with cancer and survived only after receiving vigorous medications.
Mr. Soyinka spoke at a press conference at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He said the disease was first diagnosed in December 2013 and thanks to the early detection and compliance with medications, which he completed on October 28, he became free of the ailment last month.

In a bid to reduce road traffic crashes on the highways the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has put a final ban on the selling of alcoholic drinks in all the motor parks across the State.
Gov Obiano who was represented by Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Chuma Mbonu, stated this while declaring open 2014  Ember Months Awareness Campaign Flag-Off said the state had put necessary measures in place to ensure accident- free Christmas season noting that anyone who violates the order would be severely dealt with.
He  said that his administration was paying huge attention road infrastructure in the state as to ease traffic within the state.

Tribute To Prominent Broadaster, CHAZ B

PROMINENT BROADCASTER, CHAZ B, IS DEAD
A prominent Nigerian radio broadcaster, Charles Bruce Chukwuma, also known as “Chaz B” is dead. Mr. Chukwuma was a popular presenter of a radio show “Sharing Life Issues” which aired on Inspiration FM Radio before moving to Rhythm FM.
Mr. Chukwuma abruptly signed off on air during his last presentation late Friday, telling listeners his colleague will finish the show. Friends and family said he died yesterday of complications arising from kidney failure.
Mr. Chukwuma had in 2012 had a kidney transplant from an organ donated by his wife in India.
He reportedly started feeling uncomfortable, complaining of rumbling within his system and promptly left the programme mid-air. He was admitted at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, where a team of doctors battled to save his life. He gave up the ghost early Saturday morning and his corpse has since been deposited at the morgue.
Apparently in compliance with doctors’ directive, he had reportedly gone for check up in April this year and returned hale and hearty to the delight of his fans.
Burning with a desire to take his highly inspirational programme to a wider audience across the country, Chaz B had served Inspirational FM notice to quit early in the year, and transmuted to Rhythm FM, which has capacity for network broadcasting across its stations in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Awka amongst others.
Chaz B’s programme, “Sharing Life Issues” was widely acclaimed as the most popular on Inspiration FM, and his notice to leave was said to have angered the station’s owner, Erasmus Akingbola, who immediately ordered that he be paid off.
He will be missed by his cult of followers, who have come to trust and value his wise and consoling solutions to issues.

Nigerian Man Sentenced To Death For Drug Trafficking In Malaysia

A Nigerian man, Abuchi Ngwoke, 35, was sentenced to death today November 25th, by a Malaysian Hight Court on a drug trafficking conviction .
Ngwoke was arrested at a Malaysian airport in 2012 after being found with 251.66 grams of Methamphetamine. According to reports, he swallowed gemstones in Nigeria before boarding a flight to Malaysia.
A date has not yet been set for his execution.

Vanguard gathered that Professor Otitolaye, who had been championing war against examination malpractice in the institution, was abducted around Stadium Road, near the campus on Friday night, on his way to a supermarket.

PDP blasts N700m budget for Aregbesola’s inauguration

Osun state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, queried what it called “bogus budget” for the inauguration of Osun state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola for a second term.
Governor Aregbesola is due to be inaugurated for another term on Thursday, November 27, but the opposition party in a statement issued in Osogbo by Prince Diran Odeyemi, the party’s spokesperson, said the budget of N700 million for the swearing-in ceremony “amid hunger by workers, who have not been paid salary in the last three months tells much about the kind of leaders holding the reigns in Osun at the moment.”

Police arrests Dismissed naval officer, others for hijacking truck with N20m goods

The police in Lagos have arrested a dismissed naval officer, Lawal Alli, who led five other gang members to allegedly hijacking a truck with goods which were valued at N20m.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the truck, marked LSD782XB, was hijacked by the suspects around Navy Town, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos State on Friday, November 14.
