Kano State Governor and Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso has told journalists that the people who would vote for President Jonathan in 2015 are hawks. On why he thinks he can defeat president Jonathan come next year in the presidential race if he begs APC’s ticket, Kwankwaso said; I don’t know why (President Goodluck) Jonathan and I collected our nomination forms the same day. Maybe the indication is that both of us are going to slug it out in 2015, and once that happens, I am sure you know the answer – he is going to lose.
A Lagos governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Musiliu Obanikoro, said if elected, his administration will concentrate on grassroots governance and education.
The former Minister of State for Defence stated this while delivering a speech at his gubernatorial declaration at the National stadium, Surulere.
“Under my administration, governance will be premised on three main pillars: 1st Grassroots Governance; 2nd Simple Solutions – where we immediately address our most critical challenges and 3rd Education,” Mr. Obanikoro said.
The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Mr. Reno Omokri, has noted that the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 confirmed the success of the anti-corruption fight of the president. Nigeria improve on the CPI from 144 in 2013 to 136 this year.
He attributed the success to the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in the country.
“The significant improvement Nigeria has made in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International is as a result of the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in Nigeria.
There is a new lease of life among those living within the waterways of Onitsha, Anambra State courtesy of the Nigerian Navy.
The Naval Outpost in Onitsha located at Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State has brought back life to the coastal line of the commercial city as the Navy has continued to maintain security along the waterways in the lower River Niger and its environs in line with the mandate establishing the outpost.
A human rights advocacy organization, Centre for Social Justice, yesterday, accused the State Governors of squandering about N23.220 trillion allocations from the joint Account meant for the local government Councils in their states.
The group was disclosed this while making an appeal to all Nigerians to join their voice in support for autonomy of the Local Government Councils in the country.
Executive Director of the Centre, Eze Onyekwere, who made the call at a media briefing on constitutional amendments said, granting autonomy to the LGCs is not only constitutional but guarantees the rights to health and education of Nigerian people at the grass root.
As the rumours of the possible impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan begins to gather momentum, Senator Abdulkadir Jajere ( APC Yobe South) affirmed that the impeachment threat is real just as Senator Ayogu Eze ( PDP Enugu North) stated that nothing like that exist in the Senate at the moment.
LEADERSHIP recalls that last week, 63 senators with some members of the House of Representatives (reportedly 200) are alleged to have already appended their signatures to an impeachment notice for President Jonathan.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has continued to blaze the trail in the pursuit of excellence in governance, weaving aesthetics into the tapestry of his administrative exploits as could be seen with the sudden transformation of the once notorious Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha into a breathtaking kaleidoscope colours in readiness for Christmas.
Travellers into the Eastern heartland are forced to gasp in wonder as the long stately highway that connects the Niger Bridge to Upper Iweka now explodes into a carnival of colour at night in subtle demonstration of the positive change that Governor Obiano and his team have ushered into Anambra State. On the surface of the amazing transformation of Onitsha at night is the message of Christmas. However, underneath that is the subliminal message of transformation and hope for a once troubled city that used to be the dread of benighted road travellers.
Mr. Akpabio, who is one of President Goodluck Jonathan's closest associates, is named alongside Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, one of the most corrupt scions of a dictator in the world. Teodoro is the son of Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the strongman ruler of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea.
Teodoro is currently facing corruption charges in France. Until last month, he was also facing money laundering charges in the US, but the US Justice Department settled the case out of court after cutting a deal with Mr. Teodoro to forfeit some of his assets, including a $30-million Malibu mansion.
Also listed in the infamous list of “economic citizens” of St. Kitts and Nevis is a notorious oil subsidy thief, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, who has been a fugitive from justice in Nigeria after being implicated in the theft of billions of naira from Nigeria’s oil subsidy funds. Mr. Ogunbambo is known to own numerous passports.
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Tuesday likened President Goodluck Jonathan to the Biblical Babylonian autocrat, King Nebuchadnezzar.
He said Nigerians have been cast into a “furnace” in the manner of Shedrack, Mishak and Abednego. Unfortunately for the citizens, no divine miracle appears to be at hand for a last-minute rescue, Soyinka said. The three biblical characters where cast into a fiery furnace for refusing to bow down to an image made by the despotic king, but they were miraculously rescued. Soyinka while speaking at a media briefing at the Freedom Park in Lagos, with the theme: “King Nebuchadnezzar – the reign of impunity,” said Jonathan’s administration has become known for lawlessness.
The international multimedia networks and public policy organization, USAfrica, has adjudged the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, as the Nigerian Governor of the Year, ending 2014, “based on the USAfrica Governance Index for combining effective management, practical results and grassroots social responsibility since the blast of his Anambra Governorship whistle on March 17, 2014.”
