APART from initial hitches leading to late commencement in most states and boycotts by aggrieved aspirants in a couple of states, the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lived up to the billing, yesterday.
The exercises produced shocking results in some states. Most of the out-going governors such as Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Theodore Orji of Abia, Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Sule Lamido of Adamawa ‘delivered’ their favoured aspirants as candidates just as former Minister of State (Education), Mr. Nyesom Wike came out tops in Rivers in spite of pre-primaries opposition from some PDP elders and stakeholders in the state, while Mr. Jimi Agbaje emerged winner in Lagos.
The Federal Government has ordered the release of the the Chad-bound Russian aircraft detained at the Aminu Kano Airport in Kano, hours after it said it was not in a hurry to let the aircraft go.
PR Nigeria, an agency that circulates press statements for Nigerian security agencies, had quoted an unnamed top security official as telling it that “Nigeria has no reason to release the aircraft and its cargo until investigation is concluded”.
But the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Adesola Amosu, said Monday afternoon that the government had approved the release of the aircraft, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.
The government announced the release of the aircraft shortly after PREMIUM TIMES obtained a manifest which listed the entire cargo on the plane.
According to the document, the Antonov Cargo plane, AN 124100RA82038, with flight number, TTF 9042 from Bangui, Central, African Republic to Ndjamena, Chad, contained a list of 24 military hardware including a vehicle, helicopters and blades.
A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Abdussamad Dasuki, on Sunday picked the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the Kebbe-Tambuwal Federal Constituency.
If Dasuki wins the February 2015 election, he will succeed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who has been on the seat for the past eight years.
Several gunshots marred Monday’s senatorial primaries of the
All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun Central Senatorial District.
The development was linked to an allegation against the
Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, of attempting to impose a candidate.
Many delegates and other stakeholders, including security
operatives, ran helter-skelter when pandemonium broke at the venue, the Moshood
Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
Ashiwaju.org gathered
that while the accreditation was going on, speculations dribbled around that
one of the aspirants, who has the blessing of an elder brother to the governor,
was allegedly holding a parallel election inside the June 12 Cultural Center, a
stone throw from the stadium.
Following the speculation, some thugs allegedly started
shooting sporadically to disperse the voters, a development which rendered the
congress inconclusive.
Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has won the ruling Peoples Democratic Party governorship primaries in Abia State.
He polled 487 votes to clinch the PDP ticket while his closest rival, Dr. Uche Ogah came second with 103 votes ahead of the immediate past Minister for Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu who came third with 33 votes.
Two time Deputy Governor Acho Nwakanma, and Friday Nwosu both secured 5 votes each, while Marc Wabara, and Okey Emuchay got three votes respectively.

The primary elections held for candidates that will represent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 governorship election have ended in some states in Nigeria, with a former Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, Teslim Folarin, Umur Nasko and others emerging as candidates.
Nigerian cities with greater potential than Japan and Dubai exist, but have been quarantined and bogged down in the orgy of lamentation. These cities, such as Aba, Onitsha, Lagos and Kano, need to be urgently negotiated, renegotiated and revisited from their very foundations.
Aba, one of the ancient cities in Nigeria is nicknamed “Japan of Africa”. In Aba, more than 50, 000 hand-made shoes are churned out daily. In little corners of this ancient city, hardworking men of giant minds are known to replicate the kind of creative imagination for which the three Japanese cities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are known today. Most important are the ingenuity and the industry of its people in handcrafts including manufacturing, fashion and design, steel works, fabrication etc. Virtually every street in Aba has its own fair share of businesses.
A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, has clinched the governorship ticket of the
ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa state.
Mr. Ribadu beat six other contestants, including the state
governor, Bala Ngilari in an election which held at the Old Parade ground,
Abuja.
The party’s National Working Committee, NWC, had moved the
election to Abuja after Mr. Ngilari was accused by a panel sent to the state to
conduct primary election for state Assembly aspirants of holding them hostage.
Monday’s election results which was announced by the
chairman of the election panel, Rufai Hanga, showed that Mr. Ribadu scored 688
votes while Governor Ngilari got 26 votes.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Ayogu Eze, has emerged the winner of a parallel governorship primary election in Enugu State.
Although the main primary election, supervised by the electoral panel from Abuja, and attended by Governor Sullivan Chime, Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, other members of the national assembly, as well as the state leadership of the party, is still going on at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, as of the time of filing this report, Eze won the other event which held at Filbon Hotel, at New Haven, Enugu.
The Senator scored about 530 votes to defeat the other aspirants, who were absent at the event.
Ashiwaju.org gathered that the electoral panel, headed by King Asara A. Asara, tried to get the aspirants to participate in a unified primary election, but Eze reportedly backed out following disagreements over the delegates list.
