The emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan and a former military Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari (retd), as presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress respectively have set the stage for a political war among various ethnic and cultural groups in the country.
SUNDAY PUNCH enquires showed that while some of the groups have taken decisions to queue behind either Jonathan or Buhari, others are in the process of taking decision on whom to support.
This is happening even as some of the groups have, however, chosen to be neutral.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday said despite the criticisms being directed at President Goodluck Jonathan, majority of Nigerians are aware that the Federal Government under his watch has performed creditably well. Abati made his position known in an interview he granted the Voice of America. He said it was on record that the government had turned the nation’s economy into the largest one in Africa.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Yasmin Belo-Osagie. I’m the second of Hakeem Belo-Osagie’s four children. I had my primary school education in Nigeria, then left for a boarding school in England when I was 10 years old. I was there for eight years then went to the United States where I studied at the Princeton University. I now live and work in Nigeria.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, South-East chapter, in an emergency meeting converged today in Enugu, has dissociated self from the move made by Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for taking part in the party just concluded presidential primary , described him as a lone ranger operating in his own world.
this was disclosed in a statement signed by the publicity secretary of the party in the zone, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, and made available to newsmen, he said Okorocha’s ambition cost the zone important positions in the party.
The statement read, “May I express my dismay over statement in national newspapers credited to Governor Rochas Okorocha, the leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in my zone the South East to the effect that, ‘By participating in the contest, I have been able to prove that the president can come from any part of the country. It is the understanding of APC that the president should come from the North ever since. I know about that, but I don’t like those facts, so I have come to distort those facts which are not the truth.’
