The high-performing governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been named winner of this year’s edition of the Nigeria Integrity and Anti-corruption Awards.
According to Ethics and Corporate Compliance Institute of Nigeria who instituted the awards, Governor Obiano earned the confidence of the awards panel for his commitment to public safety and security.
In the words of Dr Dagogo Lawrence, a spokesman of the institute, “Governor Obiano has demonstrated that the challenge of securing of lives and property could be prioritised and achieved with prudent leadership and focused direction.”
As the February 14 general elections is fast drawing nearer, more prophecies and revelations has been released by men of God, politicians, amid controversies trailed by the much-awaited elections are busy with campaigns, releasing their manifestos at rallies and campaign venues. As eminent men of God, such as Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Bishop David Oyedepo, Archbishop Sam Amanga, Rev. father Ejike Mbaka, others released their prophecies for the year, the Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) in London, pastor Matthew Ashimolowo is not left out. Pastor Ashimolowo, an inspiring preacher who has lifted countless souls with his passionate preaching of the gospel, in an interview said there is going to be a shaking of the world. There will be earthquakes in some places.
Your Excellency Sir,
Please forgive me for writing you through this medium. I can imagine how busy you must be, especially at this time that the elections are by the corner. With the many gatekeepers you have, if I posted the letter, the chance of your ever reading it can be imagined. I don’t even know if NIPOST is still working. Do you know, sir? Since I am not a governor, a party chairman, an oba, a minister, a man of God, etc, I reckon that your gate keepers will be infuriated that I even had the effrontery to address a letter to you. I can imagine one of them reacting in anger: Who this Tony Okoroji think him be sef? Who told him that he can send a letter to the C-in C, the president of the largest black nation on earth?’ They would have torn my letter into a thousand shreds and thrown the shreds into a trash can. Please believe me; I could not control the desperate urge to reach you and express myself, dear leader. Honestly, I have become worried that your gatekeepers are behaving like they own you; they are the only ones who love you and that you should listen to them only. It is a lie! The truth is that there are millions of us in this country who genuinely think that you are an ok guy and wish you well. I hope sir that you will be kind enough to tell those guys of yours not to call the security people to teach me a hot lesson for this my foolishness. You know that you rule over a large country, in fact the most populous in Africa. In this very large country, we are made up of all kinds; the brilliant,
All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), on Saturday warned that Nigeria would be in trouble if the Peoples Democratic Party wins the 2015 elections. Buhari said this while addressing a campaign rally at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu. He told the gathering that it would be a mistake if they failed to vote out the PDP. “If you make a mistake to allow the PDP to rule again for the next four years, we will all be in trouble,” Buhari said. He stressed the need for people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards in order to ensure that the PDP was voted out. “What we need from you is to make sure that you get your PVCs,” he said. Buhari added that “if Nigeria don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.” Promising to invest in agriculture, industries and security, the APC presidential candidate distanced Islam from the activities of the Boko Haram sect.
The Director General, Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday reminded Ndigbo that President Goodluck Jonathan was not an Igbo man.Amaechi, who spoke at the Michael Okpara venue of the APC’s presidential campaign rally in Enugu said Ndigbo should not be deceived by ‘Ebele and Azikiwe’, attached to President Jonathan’s names.Speaking in Igbo language, he challenged Jonathan to speak Igbo if he claimed to be one with the Igbos. Earlier, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, assured the people that Buhari would stabilise the country, if voted into office.Okorocha, however, urged Buhari to give the South-East one more state, and also fund the construction of the second Niger Bridge from the federal budget, instead of the current public/private partnership arrangement.Other projects which Okorocha asked Buhari to execute in the South-East include upgrading the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, to an
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday made a surprise appearance at the church wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter, Inebharapu.
Inebharapu was joined in holy matrimony to Simeon at a well-attended service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
Obasanjo and Jonathan have not been seen together in public events lately, especially since the public presentation of his book, ‘My Watch.’ The former President had on Monday said Nigeria was facing economic problems due to the failure of the present administration to plan for a rainy day.
He told eminent women leaders from the South-West, who visited him at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, that the nation’s reserves which as of 2007 stood at $67bn had been depleted by the Federal Government.
Civil rights group, The Peoples Forum, PF, has joined the demand for investigation into the alleged funding of the campaign of the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
The Forum also called for the probe of the purported endorsement of Buhari for the 2015 presidential election by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND).
The spokesman of PF, Elias Kaka, said in Lagos, at the weekend, that the probe of the funding of Buhari’s campaign was necessary despite the denial by the Buhari Campaign Organisation, in order to put the records straight.
“Despite the denial that Buhari’s campaign is not being bankrolled by some unnamed Arab countries, there is the need for thorough investigation on the matter against the backdrop of the extant security challenges and the purported islamization of the country by some faceless groups”, the spokesman said.
World leaders are gathering in Paris ahead of a march in the French capital to show unity after three days of terror that left 17 people dead.
Some 40 leaders are to go to the rally, expected to dwarf Saturday marches that saw 700,000 take to the streets.
About 2,000 police officers and 1,350 soldiers are being deployed across the French capital to protect marchers.
Police are seeking accomplices of the gunmen who attacked a satirical magazine and a kosher supermarket.
The interior minister says France will stay on high alert in the coming weeks.
Retired Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, explains why the clergy should not mix religion with politics. He speaks against the backdrop of the statement by the Enugu-based Catholic priest and founder of Adoration Ground, Father Ejike Mbaka, that members of his congregation should reject President Goodluck Jonathan in the general elections.
How do you see the statement credited to Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka?
Any serious priest will not speak the way he spoke. I am not saying that he is not serious. I will not agree with the things he said. According to what I read in the newspapers, a few weeks earlier, the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, visited his Adoration Ground in Enugu and he prayed for her. At that occasion, he was said to have lambasted the opposition party, APC, and now to turn around overnight and start lambasting President Goodluck Jonathan shows that there is something wrong somewhere.
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari today strongly condemned reports of election violence in Jos, the capital of Plateau. Reports indicate that the violence and burning of campaign buses was a result of a clash between two factions of the People’s Demoractic Party (PDP).
“I have received news of violence in Jos today,” he said. “I condemn this violence in its entirety. I reject any supporter who resorts to violence. Like I said after the attack on our supporters in Rivers this week, elections are not war.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo and I stand in total condemnation of this incident. I call on the PDP to join this call for peace. Every Nigerian life is sacred.”
