The All Progressive Grand Alliance House of Representatives
elect for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Honourable Peter-Obi
Obiano Madubueze in an interview with Ashiwaju Media on the just concluded
National Assembly election and prospect for Ndigbo in Nigeria Politics.
How would you
described your victory at the just concluded National Assembly election where
PDP dominated the Assembly seats, having only you and one other APGA candidate
in the election?
I owe my victory to the executive governor of Anambra state,
Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano he is everything that happen to me and I
give God the Glory for that.
How would you
describe the turnout of voters during the election?
Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has pledged to do all possible to rescue more than 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok in Borno State, by Boko Haram militants, a year ago. The girls were seized April 14, 2014 from their dormitories as they prepared for exams. The current federal government has failed to rescue them, and has been widely criticised for not doing enough, until recently, to tackle Boko Haram. In a statement marking the girls’ one year in captivity, Mr. Buhari said his government will act differently.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of partisanship, saying the commission had a premeditated winner in mind before the election. Speaking through the Director General of his Campaign Organization, Barr. Iheukwumere Alaribe, the governor stated that the supplementary election was avoidable if INEC had done the right thing. According to Alaribe, INEC had underestimated the popularity of Governor Rochas Okorocha and was overwhelmed by the firm will of the people expressed through massive votes for the governor. “This is why they worked out the supplementary election as a soft landing for the PDP.” He added, “Our major opponent is not Ihedioha but INEC which has become a major player and a partisan contender in the election.”
The Rivers State Government has stated that Governor Rotimi Amaechi is not involved in any accident, as being insinuated.
The Rivers government, through the Commissioner for Information and
Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, Friday in Port Harcourt, said the
accident rumour was the product of mischief makers, evil harbingers and
those who wished the state governor dead. Amaechi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), as at press time, was in his office at the Government House, Port Harcourt, attending to state matters.
Rivers government said: “We make haste to inform Rivers people that
their governor is hale, hearty and ready to cast his ballot tomorrow
(today), during the governorship and House of Assembly elections. The
rumour is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers and those who
wish the governor ill, but unfortunately, they are not God.
A staggering revelation has been made on
the latest request from the about to be re-appointed national team
boss, Stephen Keshi as whispers from the Nigeria Football Federation
(NFF) Glass House suggests that he wants Daniel Amo¬kachi sacked as
assistant manager of the Super Eagles, FCNaija.com can exclusively report.
The former Everton forward was in charge of the Eagles in Keshi’s
absence when the team prosecuted two friendly games – first, a disgracefully
defeat against Uganda in front of home fans at the Akwa Ibom
Interna¬tional stadium which was fol¬lowed by a lackluster 1-1 draw in
South Africa against the Bafana Bafana.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged
president-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to publicly declared his assets
and instruct all members of his government to do same. SERAP
executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, made the call yesterday in a
statement where he suggested a five-point agenda for the incoming
administration to tackle corruption if only to send a strong signal of
change and ensure improved governance in the country.
“Nigerians have heard plenty of rhetoric about corruption and now is
the time to take concrete action to combat the problem,” Mumuni said.
“As a first step, the president-elect should immediately after 29 May
2015 demonstrate his total rejection of corruption by publicly declaring
his assets and publicly instructing all members of his government to do
the same.”
Benue State
Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has lamented that he was betrayed by friends
and close aides, adducing this as the major reason for his defeat during
the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Suswam contested the Benue North-East Senatorial seat but was roundly defeated by the incumbent Senator, Barnabas Gemade. He stated this on Friday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, the state capital, while assenting
the the bills on Chieftaincy Affairs and Revenue Enhancement, presented
to him the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Terseer Ayua.
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan and the national leader of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, on Friday, went for
the broke over today’s governorship election in Lagos State with the duo
engaging in last-minute meetings with their foot soldiers to ensure
victory for their candidates. Jonathan, as the leader of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), flew into Lagos unannounced on Thursday
night and reportedly held a series of meetings with top members of the
party on how to ensure the emergence of Mr Jimi Agbaje as the next
governor of the state. Tinubu’s APC, however, drew the first blood
as it accused Jonathan of being in Lagos to execute an election rigging
plot. Jonathan’s PDP replied in equal measure, describing the allegation
as “repulsive, infuriating and deliberate to attack the president.”
Governorship and House of Assembly elections took place yesterday
across the country, in an election that witnessed a relatively low
turnout when compared with the turnout in the March 28 presidential and
National Assembly elections. And while the polls passed off without
incident in many places, in some states, there were violent incidents,
deaths, and reports of electoral malpractice. Exit polls and early
results from the polling units indicated that the incumbent governor of
Ogun State and candidate of All Progressives Congress, Senator Ibikunle
Amosun, and the APC candidate in Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, who is
the incumbent Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the
Peoples Democratic Party candidate in Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, and
his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, might be winning the race in
their states. Okowa was leading in his Delta North senatorial
district, with reports of excellent performance in the other two
senatorial zones. In Owa- Oyibu, ward 1, PDP scored 5,145 votes, APC
polled 1 vote, and Labour Party had 1 vote. In Ute-Okpu, ward 9, PDP had
1,953 votes, APC had 3 votes, and Labour Party had 8 votes.
