The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has called on African leaders to intervene in the xenophobic attacks on non-indigenes in south Africa.
Bishop Ezeokafor who stated this while addressing newsmen at St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral, Awka urged Nigerian government to take special interest in the unfortunate development in making sure that Nigerians are protected in midst of the racial impasse.
The Catholic Prelate, condemned in strong terms the racial attacks even as he called for caution in the interest of Africa Continent
Wife of the Anambra State Governor Chief Mrs.Ebelechukwu Obiano has once again restated her commitment to empowering the down -trodden in Anambra State as panacea to helping them contribute to the overall development of the state .
Mrs.Obiano who stated this at the Women Development Centre Awka on the occasion of the second phase of distribution of prosthetic limbs, explained that her passion to alleviating the sufferings of the poor and the needy in society knew no bounds .
She said it was of paramount importance to remember those who had one physical deformity or the other especially when they are financially incapacitated to attend to such problems ; which according to her was the remote reason why she gave out the prosthetic limbs to the beneficiaries to enable them develop economically as well as contribute their quota to the development of the state .
She said the first phase of the exercise was held in December last year where in about 300 people benefitted . Obiano's wife therefore explained that God sent her and her husband to planet earth to do good and be benevolent to people stressing that they have been engaged in charity work for more than 25 years now helping the poor and the needy in the society .
Ndigbo Unity Forum,a socio-political Igbo group has warned the national chairman of the All Progressives, Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh to desist from further attack on the Senator-elect for Anambra central senatorial zone, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife as that could be termed contempt of court.
The group through their National President, Chief Augustine Chukwudum urged Umeh to stop further attack on the Senator-elect on the ground that since he had approached the court to challenge the out come of the 28thMarch National Assembly election in Anambra state, he can no longer be a judge in his own case.
As Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, I want to state that I categorically condemn the appalling xenophobic attacks taking place in the various locations in our country.
It is with embarrassment and shame that I come before the world and especially my fellow Africans to apologise for these senseless attacks. I hold in contempt the loathing and subsequent attacks suffered by our brothers and sisters from the continent.
The majority of us South Africans, perceive and carry ourselves as Africans and believe what we have witnessed in some parts of our country goes against the grain of who we are as a people, our constitution, and the principles of Ubuntu that we so dearly adhere to.
Friends of Val Obienyem should be worried about the current state of his mind. The young man sounds like someone whose colossal inheritance of loss has weighed down and the power of coordination has deserted him. The tragedy is that Val is not the only one whose career has come to the end of the road all of a sudden. The worry therefore lies in the way the young man has taken his loss so far. Since his dream of vending his voodoo media skills for the botched second term of President Jonathan disappeared into thin air, Val Obienyem has taken the high road of infamy to give Peter Obi one more reason to retain his services.
A response to Obiano: The Face of Wickedness “If you were in my shoes what else would you do but to accept your sack and move on. I have accepted my fate and I have equally moved on. However, I still expect that one day my brother and friend, Governor Willie Obiano will appreciate my efforts in enthroning him and extend to me and all that worked for him the ‘dividends of democracy” … Joe Martins Uzodike
The above quote taken from the last paragraph of Joe Martins Uzodike’s 12-page drivel against Governor Willie Obiano aptly sums up the actual motive behind his attack. It also effectively places a heavy moral burden on his shoulders. Uzodike, immediate past Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism in Anambra State is deeply pained at losing the position of privilege and influence he had occupied for years. In the process, he cheekily breaks the code of silence of professional information managers and spins a bitter narrative in an open display of extreme unprofessionalism that lowers the esteem of the office he once occupied. Nevertheless, had Uzodike’s long epistle of hate been only about a sudden loss of privilege, it would have been easy to sympathize with him. Unfortunately, the long tendentious piece titled Obiano: The Face of Wickedness drips with bile, lies, malice and fecal jeremaid that if not refuted might be mistaken as a factual account by some segments of the audience.
"I am very surprised that this issue is raging! For Christ sake, Anambra state accounts were published when Peter Obi handed over and nearly ALL the 75b were invested in shares and stocks! All the companies where investments were made were listed for all to see.
"If Peter said he left 75b, he couldn't have said CASH or he'll be shooting himself in the leg. Obiano came in and saw peanuts left with the banks. That's why he conducted an audit of State income and found out that Peter had left him absolutely nothing to work with. He froze all Govt accounts and didn't pay his executives for about 2 months while he sorted out the finances.
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has called on the people of Abia State to choose the surest path
to accelerated development and all-round renewal of their state by voting for Dr. Alex Otti in the gubernatorial election that is rescheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2015 in select parts of the state. Speaking at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Wednesday, Governor Obiano observed that the rescheduled election has given Ndi Abia the chance to get their calculations right this time, pointing out that if truly the people were desirous of experiencing real progress in the next four years, they would have no difficulties voting for Dr. Alex Otti who is standing election on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). According to him, the decision of who to choose between Dr. Otti and other candidates contesting with him is like a choice between light and darkness; because Dr. Otti is apparently the best man for the job. “As a retired banker, I know what it takes to attain the height that Alex Otti attained as a former Managing Director of one of Nigeria’s leading banks. That achievement is possibly the best preparation for the arduous task of running the affairs of a state. I want to assure Abia people that their future is more assured if they give Alex Otti the chance to lead them as their governor. I have no doubt that Otti will transform Abia in a matter of years,” Governor Obiano assured.
FOR his act of statesmanship in conceding defeat in the March 28 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan, has earned the respect of Nigerians and the international community, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, has observed. The Ghanaian leader was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, where he told State House correspondents after a private meeting with President Jonathan that he was in the country to congratulate him on the successful conduct of the general election. He said: “I also took the opportunity to commend him for the statesmanship that was displayed after the election. We all knew that he congratulated president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari after the election and he conceded. “I feel that was a very, very great sign of maturity and has earned the respect of all Nigerians and the international community for all what he did.” Mahama reiterated that he was in the country in his capacity as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as a follow up of his pre-election visit, during which he showed the sub-region’s solidarity with Nigerians.
The National Executive Committee, NEC of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is meeting today to resolve the issues outstanding from the zoning of principal office positions in the party as recommended by the National Working Committee, NWC of the party last week. The deliberation of the party’s highest decision making body is expected to quell rising anxiety within the party over the allocation of party positions that has seen zonal leaders position their interests against those of other zones. The party NWC had reportedly zoned the position of Senate President to the North-Central a development that has seen two of the major gladiators from the zone, Senators Bukola Saraki and George Akume turning into the front leaders for the contest. The zoning of the speaker and Deputy Senate President, according to sources is expected to be resolved today or possibly tomorrow by the party hierarchy.
