11 Reasons Why Nyesom Wike Should Not Be Sworn In As Governor On May 29 By Joe Igbokwe

Be cause we have not sufficiently punished political criminals in Nigeria for 16years now, the hearts of our politicians have been schemed to continue to do wrong, believing that they are above the law and that nothing will happen to them. Impunity and political corruption have choked Nigeria’s development in the last 16 years and I make bold to say that time has come for us to sit up. In actions and deeds, we seemed to have democratized political corruption and consequently corrupted our democracy to the extent that our political leaders commit heinous crimes without caring a hoot.

30 Cultist Killers Are Found To Be Auchi Polytechnic Students In Edo State

New Force PRO DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu\
Edo police command have confirmed that 41 suspected cultists, including 30 Auchi Polytechnic University students, have been arrested for allegedly killing members of the public and destroying property.

Eleven of the suspects are alleged cult leaders. The rest are students and artisans who have played various roles in the recent crimes plaguing Edo State.

Police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the suspects were nabbed by an anti-cultism team recently set up by Inspector General of the Police Solomon Arase.

“This afternoon, I am presenting before you some persons suspected to have played ignoble roles in acts of terror, and vicious inter and intra-cult conflicts that have led to loss of lives and destruction of property in Edo State," Ojukwu said.

May 29 Handover: No facts from Jonathan on fuel crisis – Buhari

Buhari
The president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari, yesterday, lamented that the out-going administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has failed to provide the in-coming government with all the necessary information needed for a smooth take-off next week, particularly on how to tackle the current fuel scarcity in the country.
The President-elect spoke on a day the Senate directed its committees on Petroleum Resources ( Upstream and Downstream ) to immediately commence investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the fuel crisis in the country.
The Senate directive was sequel to the motion by the Deputy Senate Majority Leader, Senator Abdul Ningi, who had called on the lawmakers to pay serious attention to the fuel crisis that had created great hardship for Nigerians at the moment. Senator Ningi wondered why a country that has abundant oil resources should face the kind of biting scarcity that had increased the suffering of Nigerians.
But the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, noted that since the Deputy Senate Leader raised the motion under personal explanation, the senate would not debate it but would rather approve his prayers.
Senator Ekweremadu said: “Ningi’s prayers are simple and straightforward. He is asking us, as representatives of the people, to direct our committees on upstream and downstream, to find out what is currently going on in the oil sector and possibly find a way of addressing it.
“In that regard, we now ask our committees on Petroleum Resources ( Upstream and Downstream), to find out what is going on and what the government is doing about it and report back on Tuesday next week. That is our wish”

IG BARS POLICEMEN FROM CARRYING BAGS FOR POLITICIANS, THEIR WIVES, OTHERS

THE Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, on Thursday barred policemen from detaining suspects more than 24 hours, stressing that appropriate due diligence should be conducted before arrest warrant was issued.
This was as he stated that over 36,599 lower rank policemen would be promoted in the near future from the rank of Constable to Inspector, adding that those who failed promotion examinations in 2009 as well as those who were sick or were reduced in rank would benefit from the promotion if they performed well.
He also banned policemen posted to provide security for top government officials from carrying their bags or converting themselves to domestic staff, just as he emphasised his disdain against all forms of corruption.
According to him, "management decided to invite you for interaction so we get first-hand information from you. We expect that you should no longer collect money from members of the public, you should be civil to the public and observe all forms of human right abuses.
"I sent out teams to all the zones and the report they have submitted to me is not encouraging. The idea of arresting people and dumping them should no longer arise. This is too bad. We have stepped in to stop all observed anomalies.

Anambra NASS election: why Ekwunife will perform at the Senate

By EMMANUEL UZOR
Certainly, the euphoria of the last election is gradually evaporating and the reality that lies ahead is slowly coming to light. These realities for many people are anguish and pains, but to those that believed in the essence of hard work, it is a reality of joy and celebration. Now, the process of giving the people quality representation at the Senate is now the focus of Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, the senator-elect for Anambra central senatorial zone.
True to type as expected in a new dispensation the rumour mills are in full swing, with those who failed to plan and certainly planed to fail, coming up with all manners of accusations and sentiments concerning the outcome of the 28th March Presidential and National Assembly elections in Anambra state especially in Anambra central senatorial zone.

SGF: BUHARI CONSIDERS ONU, NGIGE, NWOSU • Fashola, Falana, Akintola gun for AGF

Barring any lastminute change of mind, the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, is set to pick the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) from the South-East.
New Telegraph gathered yesterday that the race for the position has been narrowed down to three candidates from whom the President-elect and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will pick a successor to the incumbent, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. Among the trio is National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and onetime governor of old Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
Also being considered for the position are a former governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, who lost his reelection bid on March 28 and Mr. Uche Nwosu, who is being sponsored by his father-in-law, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. Although, the party is not adopting the concept of zoning in the sharing of the offices, it was learnt that the South-East is favoured for the job.
It was learnt that the failure of the APC in the South-East to produce a returning member of the Senate and House of Representatives denied the zone the opportunity to produce either the Senate president or the Speaker of the House of Representatives. A senior member of the party confided in New Telegraph that the technical disqualification of the South-East from producing the head of the either chamber of the National Assembly informed conceding the SGF slot to the South-East.
Multiple sources in the APC said Onu was favoured to clinch the coveted office, being the choice of the party leadership, having contributed to the fusion of the legacy parties. “Onu is steadfast and has contributed to the growth of the APC.

OYINLOLA’S LAWYER LOSES PRACTISING LICENCE OVER ELECTION CASE

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee has expelled a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Kunle Kalejaye, from further practising as a lawyer.
The LPDC disbarred Kalejaye after finding him guilty of professional misconduct. A five-man panel of the LPDC, led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, conducted the investigation.
The LPDC found Kalejaye guilty of misconduct while representing the Peoples Democratic Party and its then candidate, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, where Oyinlola’s victory in the 2007 poll was being challenged by the then candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.
Kalejaye was said to have engaged in a “confidential, private and confidential telephone conversation” with the Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Thomas Naron, without the knowledge of the other party.
He allegedly engaged in the unprofessional act between March and June 2008 and the Justice Naron with whom he committed the misconduct had since February 20, 2013 been compulsorily retired by the National Judicial Council.

HOW JONATHAN PLANS TO REPOSITION PDP

Following the defeat of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections, indications emerged yesterday about how President Goodluck Jonathan plans to reposition the party.
LEADERSHIP Friday yesterday exclusively gathered that the Wednesday resignations of its national chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, were not unconnected with the plot.
Although Mu’azu, in a letter tendered during the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, cited ‘health grounds’ as the reason for his resignation, credible sources within and outside the Presidential Villa disclosed that the two resignations were orchestrated by President Goodluck Jonathan.
What came as a surprise package for the political watchers was how the former governor of Bauchi State, who had only last week dismissed calls for his resignation and warned that the PDP would be buried if he succumbed to the pressure, threw in the proverbial towel on health grounds.
But unlike him, Anenih, in a one-page letter to Jonathan, hinged his own action on the current state of affairs in the party. He made references to some encounters he had had with Jonathan after the loss of the Presidency where he had asked the outgoing president to take over as BoT chairman. LEADERSHIP Friday has it on a good authority that it was Jonathan who asked the two leaders to resign so that he would reorganise the party after becoming BoT chairman.

Aggrieved commercial motorcyclists at Era area of Badagry, Lagos, have threatened to avenge the killing of their colleagues by motor park touts, otherwise known as agbero, during a fight over collection of levy on Tuesday.

A visit to the community yesterday revealed that one of the deceased commercial motorcyclists, simply identified as Lawal, was allegedly hit with a charm.

Two others, said to have suffered same fate, had reportedly been discharged from the hospital and taken to an undisclosed herbal home for further treatment.

Residents had fled the area. Those that returned and others that stayed back remained indoors, with their children withdrawn from school. Shops and business centres were still under lock and key.
