I WON’T RESIGN –SECONDUS

Barely 24 hours after assumption of office as acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus, has rejected calls in some quarters that other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party should resign, describing such move as unconstitutional.
Speaking with State House correspondents after leading other members of the part’s NWC to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Secondus denied insinuations that the former national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and the chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, were forced to resign, saying the two leaders left voluntarily on their own.
Secondus said he and his colleagues in the NWC were in the Villa to interact with the president as party’s leader. He stressed that the new leadership would re-organise and re-invent the party, and assured, “our teeming supporters and our loyal members that the party is intact without any problem.”
On the call for resignation of the NWC, he said: “You know that is not right, it is unconstitutional, because the (former) chairman did that voluntarily, and the BoT chairman also did that voluntarily. Some of the others have tenures. At the end of our tenure, if we are re-elected, fine, if not, that is the right thing to do. There is no reason for us to resign because we have worked hard.”

IG TO CURB POWERS OF SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD

The powers of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) are to be subsumed under Assistant Commissioners of Police in-charge of Criminal Investigation Department at various commands nationwide.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, made this known while fielding question from newsmen at an interactive session between him, officers and rank and file on Thursday.
“They will not have the type of jurisdiction that they have now assume, especially in terms of their dress code, I believe that we should be able to distinguish police officers from touts.
“On the highways, I think they are going to be away from there.
“We have been able to put the Safer Highway scheme on the roads (motorised patrol in place of road blocks) and those ones will be strictly monitored.
“We will not allow them to start wearing the type dress that they wear; their dress must be such that is befitting of the Nigeria Police,’’ he said.

On torture, Arase said it was not part of the police investigative mandate, adding that it would not be tolerated.

Many people thought Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna and his Colombian fiancee were crazy when the duo hooked up off a couple of romantic exchanges over the Instagram. Saudi Arabia:: Suicide bomber Bomb Shi'ite mosque in Qatif leaves 30 casualties--Photos

An alleged suicide bomber has detonated explosives at a Shi'ite mosque in the eastern Saudi Arabian district of Qatif during Friday prayers, which has left several casualties.
One witness told Reuters that a huge explosion took place at the Imam Ali mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh.
He estimated there were at least 30 casualties in the attack, where more than 150 people were praying. Graphic pictures shared on social media showed victims covered in blood being taken away on stretchers. Other pictures showed shattered glass, debris next to the tiled pillars and bodies covered in sheets laid out on the floor.
The Saudi state news agency confirmed that a blast had occurred at a mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia.
In March 2011, Qatif was the epicentre of Shi'ite demonstrations against what they perceived as decades of discrimination and religious and political repression from the Sunni kingdom.
It was the beginning of an uprising that was met with a crackdown, a wave of arrests and cases of police allegedly firing on unarmed protesters.
