AMBODE INAUGURAL DINNER PICS - MAY 29TH
NIGERIA, NO LONGER IN CHAINS –TINUBU
In a statement issued on Friday to mark Democracy Day titled, ‘A new Nigeria is possible beginning today,’ Tinubu urged Nigerians to continue to hold public office holders responsible to ensure that their struggle is not in vain.
He said, “Today, the old Nigeria is no longer in chains as we move into a new era and take hold of our new selves. From President (Muhammadu) Buhari to the state governors inaugurated this day, I wish them well and pray they govern in an open, democratic way that assures your optimal wellbeing.
“I ask that you, the people, maintain your diligence and help guide those you have just elected. The issues that confront us are deep and complex. They are not susceptible to facile solution or inattention. Wise and sound policy is within our capacity. But, we must have the will to accomplish it. If the governed and the government work in league, there is nothing our beloved nation cannot overcome.”
The APC chieftain noted that this year’s commemoration would be recorded in history as the moment when “democracy finally was allowed to participate in Democracy Day.”
JONATHAN: I THOUGHT BAYELSA PEOPLE WILL CURSE AND BOO ME
Jonathan, who announced that he was short of words to express his feeling at the crowd that lined up the streets of Yenagoa to welcome him back, said he had thought he would be booed and cursed by the people for some decisions made and development not attracted to the state.
Accompanied to the venue by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, the Ondo State Governor,Olusegun Mimiko, among other dignitaries, the former president said when he was about leaving Abuja for Bayelsa State,he had fears that because of some wrong decisions on his part, the people were not satisfied with him and as such they might not welcome him.
"Because you are exposed to the decisions of high office and the thought that you may not have satisfied the people, sometimes you think they will curse you or boo you," he said. "But, instead, the people have decided to celebrate me."

MADAM SPEAKER AND ONLINE BLACKMAILERS
It is now clear that a syndicate that specializes in defamatory writings has taken pleasure in playing around the office of the Speaker of Anambra State, Rt Hon Chinwe Nwaebili.
They have tried to vilify Madam Speaker and her family with so much hate. Their malignant pieces are fast metastasizing and if unchecked, with equal rage, may debilitate their target.
I am writing this piece, not as a rebuttal because there is nothing to refute in all their claims against the high performing head of the State’s legislature.
When I read their latest attack in a deleterious piece titled “Madam Speaker who Gov Obiano says her ass is like v-Boot vows to deal with Sen Igbeke (Ubanesse)”, I couldn’t but imagine the low life mentality of the schemers.
The defamatory essay and its likes find greater expression on the net possibly because, unlike the print media, this medium exacts no responsibility on offending publishers. It also allows for mediocre writing which hardly survives the rigours of the print media. More than that, the vast profusion of the stories published in the blogs comes from the same stable with slight alterations to give the impression of varied authorship.
Unbeknown to many a serial liar writes the offending pieces without byline, while a discourteous publisher brazens out the odious publications. It does not matter to these men the level of odium which they have brought upon themselves. With mindless relish, they distort facts and publish them as news stories just to score cheap political point or gain some readership traffic. Even when it is obvious they have run flush out of idea (which is often the case) they still upload lies on the net just to slake a primitive desire for lucre. Nothing can be more brazen.
To buttress the ridiculousness of the author and his story, let me quote Madam Speaker, “I’m in no way angry with Sen Ubanese not to talk of being at loggerheads with him”. This she said when I called her attention to the mischievous piece.

OSHIOMHOLE’S ALLEGATION OF MISMANAGEMENT RIDICULOUS – OKONJO-IWEALA
The governor, in an publication, reviewing the nation’s economy in the last four years, had alleged that Okonjo-Iweala ran the ECA as if she was running a one-man show.
Oshiomhole had noted that the minister’s recent outcry that oil marketers were falsifying subsidy claims might have been done out of fear of the incoming administration of President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
He said, “As the country transits from one democratic dispensation to another, there is no gainsaying that the state of the nation’s economy is the focal point, especially with the unending fuel scarcity, which is gradually grinding the nation to a halt.
“No doubt, the best person to explain the state of the economy today is Okonjo-Iweala, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, whose management of the nation’s resources in these past four years has elicited different reactions from Nigerians.
“Recently, Okonjo-Iweala has been all over the place, pointing at the wrong directions and blaming everybody but herself for the parlous state of the Nigerian economy.”
