Protest continues as students beg Buhari to reopen OAU

Workers at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile -Ife, Osun State, on Monday, said that they would continue to protest until the Federal Government appointed an acting vice-chancellor for the institution.
 The workers, comprising members of the Senior Staff Association of Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions of the school, are demanding the reversal of the appointment of Prof. Ayobami Salami as the new VC.

Afenifere, Ezeife tackle Osinbajo for opposing Nigeria’s restructuring

Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Monday carpeted Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), for his criticisms of the calls for the restructuring of Nigeria, saying Osinbajo missed the point.

Osinbajo had said on Sunday that the call for the restructuring of Nigeria was not sensible as it would not make any difference in the country.

According to the group, the VP “may have been under pressure” from the Presidency to support “upholders of the status quo.”

I’M LEAVING THE POLICE FORCE WITH MY SHOULDERS HIGH, SAYS MBU

Recently retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, on Saturday said he was retiring from the Nigeria Police Force as a fulfilled officer because he was privileged to head various formations and commands in the force, adding: “I am leaving the Police Force with my shoulders and head high.”
Mbu, who was honoured with a colourful pulling-out ceremony at Police Staff College, Jos, said: “I am proud to be a policeman, and to retire as a policeman. And if there is reincarnation, I make bold to say I will still be a policeman.”

OSINBAJO REJECTS CALLS FOR RESTRUCTURING

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has shrugged off calls to restructure Nigeria saying it is not helpful and will not make any difference.
The vice president made the remark weekend while delivering the second foundation lecture of the Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.
The title of the lecture was “The Future is Here Earlier Than We Thought.” The call for restructuring Nigeria has been a recurring decimal and of late reignited by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
In a speech at launch of a book: ‘We Are Biafrans,’ in Abuja in June, Atiku said what Nigeria required most was restructuring of the federation.

FORGERY SUIT: APC ASKS EKWEREMADU TO RETRACT LETTER TO UN, EU

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday asked Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to retract his letter to the international community in connection with his ongoing forgery trial alongside Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and two others.
The party insisted that by taking what should be an internal affair of the country to the outside world, the lawmaker had tarnished the image of Nigeria and by extension, the President.
Its Vice Chairman in Enugu State, Chief Anike Nwoga who spoke at a rally held by party members in Awgu town, Enugu State insisted that the letter was out of place.

OGBONAYA ONU PROMISES SOLID BUILDING MATERIALS FOR NIGERIANS

 
Nigeria Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu says, President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is poised to end structural failure of roads and building infrastructures in the country.
The Minister gave this assurance at the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) Zonal Headquarters Nnewi, while inspecting state of the infrastructure to complement the government’s programme geared towards reducing structural failure in the country.
He assured that the research institutes in country will play important role in ensuring that standard is maintained in the deployment of appropriate research infrastructure that will meet the country's demands and needs as a nation.

Reactions Trail Anambra Loan Acquisition From Creditor Institutions

Following the move by Anambra state government to secure loan from creditor institutions to develop the state capital projects, stakeholders have described the act as insensitive and should be discouraged by the state house of assembly.
They called on the state legislative arms of government to weigh the consequences of such borrowing with higher interest rate, capable of slowing down developmental paste of the state infrastructure, if such funds are not properly utilized.

Container crushes seven to death in Ramadan tragedy

No fewer than seven persons were killed and 12 others injured when a 40-foot container fell off a truck in the Alakija area on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Wednesday.

Ashiwaju.org  learnt that at about 7.30am, the truck, with number plate KRD 526 XP, moved from its lane to another lane and rammed into a commercial bus after its brakes failed.
In the process, the container the truck was carrying fell, killing seven people and injuring 12 others.

Alleged fraud: EFCC to re-arraign ex-MDs Akingbola, Atuche, Nwosu


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says the trial of three former Managing Directors of defunct banks has received a major boost.

The three bank Managing Directors include Mr. Erastus Akingbola of the defunct Intercontinental Bank, who is accused of stealing N47.1bn; the MD of the defunct Bank PHB, Mr. Francis Atuche, who is accused of stealing N25.7bn; and the MD of the defunct Finbank Plc, Mr. Okey Nwosu, alleged to have stolen N18bn.

Buhari using ‘corrupt EFCC’ to fight graft – Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari was using an equally “corrupt” Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to fight corruption.

He insisted that the President must start the corruption fight from his party and immediate aides “since charity begins at home.”
