The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Sunday that it had suspended its employee, Philomina Chieshe, on account of N36m which was reported to have been swallowed by a snake in the board’s office in Makurdi, Benue State.
The JAMB Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin, told our correspondent on Sunday that the board was taking her through other disciplinary measures while security agencies were investigating the matter.
Benjamin said, “She has been suspended and she is going through all other disciplinary procedures while investigation is ongoing on the matter. Her claim was that a snake came into the office and swallowed the N36m proceeds.”
Southern groups, including the Ohanaeze Ndigbo; the pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, and the Ijaw Youth Council, on Sunday said restrucuring must be central to the plan by the North to form an alliance with zones in the South for presidency in 2019.
The Afenifere and the IYC said they had interest in any group that truly believed in restructuring, but the Ohanaeze Ndigbo also said the proposal by the northern leaders was because of 2019 elections only.
On its part, the Middle Belt Youth Council said the main agenda of the North was to dominate the South and the North-Central (Middle Belt).
Northern elders and stakeholders had, at a meeting in Abuja on Saturday, said they were exploring ways to form an alliance with the South.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Monday said despite perceived opposition across the state, he would support his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to be governor in 2019 if he decides to contest.
Nwosu, who is currently the governor’s chief of staff, is married to Okorocha’s first daughter, Ulomma.
A press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, quoted Okorocha to have spoken when leaders of the All Progressives Congress from Owerri Municipal Council visited him on Monday.
The APC leaders’ visit, Onwuemeodo said, was to urge Okorocha to encourage Nwosu to be the next governor.
