The Yorubas in the six South Western states of Nigeria are bound to be in the good books of the winner of the 2019 presidential election. The reason is simple: they spread their votes between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). To use a popular expression, the Yorubas did not put all their eggs in one basket. Alhaji Atiku won in two of the six states, namely, Oyo and Ondo. President Buhari emerged victorious in Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun and Osun. Even so, both Buhari and Atiku scored up to 25% of the votes cast in each Yoruba-speaking state.
The All Progressives Congress has so far won 65 seats in the ninth Senate with its latest victory in the Bayelsa East Senatorial District.
Otuoke, the hometown of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, is in the Bayelsa East Senatorial District.
INEC has so far declared results of 101 senatorial elections that were conducted across the country on Saturday.
Some operatives attached to the Area ‘F’ Police Command, on Thursday, fired tear gas at some anti-Bola Tinubu protesters in Lagos.

A senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Party in Ogun State, Deji Ashiru, and his supporters have dumped the party to support the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dapo Abiodun.
Our correspondent learnt from a party member that Ashiru, who was defeated in the senatorial election by the APC, planned to work for Abiodun, as political parties and candidates forge alliances ahead of the March 9 governorship election.
“Deji Ashiru, who contested under the Ogun East Senatorial District at the just concluded National Assembly elections believes the APC will form the next government in Ogun State,” the source added.
Newly elected All Progressives Congress leaders in Kwara State have been advised not to deviate from principles of commitment to people that helped them to win the election.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, after a victory rally round Ilorin metropolis, members of the Buhari Osinbajo Project 2019 warned that they would move against a non-performing APC government much as they had done for the PDP in the state.
The people, in their hundreds, went round major roads like Saw Mill, Ibrahim Taiwo, Post Office, Ahmadu Bello, Murtala Mohammed way, and terminated the rally at Fate road.
The state secretary of the organisation, Ayo Obisesan, who led the rally, said that the masses in the state were tired of the Peoples Democratic Party and its leadership, hence they came out en masse to vote them out of governance in the last general elections.
The Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 52-year-old man, Dennis Kiyeve, for turning his niece, a minor, into a sex machine for over three years.
