Information that almost 100 days after the over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their hostel at Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, some 160 parents of the abducted girls as well as 57 of the students who escaped from their captors, met with President Goodluck Jonathan today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
THE All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday, cautioned against issuing President Goodluck a carte blanche on the funding of the battle against insurgency in the country, saying he could use such financial empowerment to further cripple the nation’s democracy. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC), has declared that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar was keeping wrong company ahead of 2015 general elections. Atiku had on Sunday accused the PDP and the Presidency of creating division and animosity in the country by linking chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC), with terrorism. The former vice-president noted that such accusations by the ruling party was meant to divert attention from its failure to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians.

Two soldiers were killed yesterday when their helicopter crashed in Bama, Borno state, the Defence Headquarters has said. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major General Chris Olukolade, said: “One of the pilots of the crashed Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 helicopter on a training mission earlier reported today, has been recovered alive while the second one as well as the technician on board the 3-member crew flight died in the crash. Rescue is still ongoing.”

lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr
Bede Opata has reportedly committed suicide over a yet-to-be ascertained
reason, Thisday reports.
Sources
within the university say the 38 year old law lecturer killed himself in
his apartment within the town on Saturday July 19th but his body was
only discovered on Sunday July 20th.
The Director-General of Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS), Ita Ekpeyong, said today that the Nigerian government was aware of the location of more than 200 high school girls kidnapped on April 14 by insurgents belonging to the Islamist group, Boko Haram. According to Mr. Ekpeyong, “Nigerians can go to bed.”
Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has met with President Goodluck Jonathan over the impeachment process instituted against him by members of the state House of Assembly. The PUNCH gathered on Monday that the meeting took place in the Presidential Villa, Abuja at the weekend.
