The United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) identify major challenges facing the domestication of the child rights act in many states in Nigeria to inadequate support from government and lack of awareness creation to inform the public about the basic rights of an African child.
It suggests for a holistic approach that would accommodate equal rights for every child, irrespective of their birth, background and socio-ethnic affiliation.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Anambra State command has presented items worth millions of naira to secondary schools that participated in this year’s 4th edition of Lady Victoria Oyido quiz competition for secondary schools in the state.
The quiz competition, which aimed at curbing illicit drugs among secondary school students in Anambra state, was solely sponsored by the traditional ruler of Ogidi kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area, HRM, Igwe Pharmacist Alex Oyido.
Some items presented to winners include laptop computer sets, over nine inches plasma television, school bags, assorted books and cash of N35, 000 each to the students for their JAMB, WAEC and NECO forms while their teachers smiled home with N20, 000 each.

A housewife, Mrs Kemi Joshua, 30, was on Wednesday brought before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving two stolen pigs valued at N100,000.
The Police prosecutor, Sgt. Adeoye Adesegun, told the court that the accused conspired with her husband, Joshua, who is still at large, to commit the offences.
“Kemi unlawfully received two female pigs valued at N100, 000, property of one Omokaro Ilesanmi, which she knew to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained,’’ Adesegun said.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused person committed the offences on May 21, 2017, at about 12:30 a.m. at Odopo Quarters, Ijoka, Akure.
Kuwaiti appeals court on Wednesday sentenced seven young men to death for the abduction and rape of a disabled 13-year-old boy, the victim’s lawyer said.
Ibrahim al-Bathani told AFP that the court overturned a 10-year jail term handed in April by a lower court against the seven accused.
He said the seven defendants, aged 18-23, abducted the victim in September last year to a chalet where they sexually assaulted him.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the state’s cabinet comprising commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistant.
Observers reckoned that the dissolution of the cabinet was preparatory to the setting up of a team that would canvass support for the governor’s successor in 2019.
Okorocha announced the dissolution in statement issued in Owerri, the state capital, by his Principal Secretary, Mr Paschal Obi.
